Hi Bruno,
I came cross of your comment on LP Forum and I hope you can help us w/ some questions. My Fiance and I are planning a wedding in Palmela, but we are having trouble finding information in english. We would like to find out if there is bus and/or train from Lisbon (near the airport) to Palmela.
Thanks for any help you can provide and we hope to hear from you soon.

Hi Mem,
There isn’t a direct transportation to get from the Airport to Palmela, so you’ll have to switch buses on the Gare do Oriente train station. So, you’ll have to :
1st : Take a city bus (Carris) near the Airport to Gare do Oriente or you can also take a taxi (it’s not a long distance). You can take, for instance, the 96 bus in Gare do Oriente direction or the Aeroshuttle (special bus, for those coming from abroad, search the blog, I’ve made a post about it)
2nd: Take the 565 bus from TST (Transportes Sul to Tejo) that will take you to Palmela. Is a direct bus, that takes around 45m to get to Palmela. You can find it’s timetable at http://www.tsuldotejo.pt/visualiza_carreira.php?cod_carreira=52
Hope this helps, don’t hesitate to ask any more questions if this is not enough

Hi Bruno,
Thank you again for the bus information. It’s very helpful.
I have read that traveling by bus is much more reliable and faster than train service in Portugal. I found there are 4 stations in Lisbon. Will you recommend taking the train to Palmela? If so, which station will be most convenient from Lisbon’s Int’l Airport?

Hi Mem,
Going from Lisbon to Palmela by train follows under another kind of scenario : although there is a train station there, it’s faster to get there by bus, as the bus takes a more direct route and requires less changes. You can check train info at http://www.cp.pt, just place Oriente as “From” (It is the closest train station to the airport) and Palmela as “To”. As you will see, you’ll have to make an extra change in Pinhal Novo and take 1h:10m, where the bus only take 45m.
It’s not always true that buses are better and more reliable, they just provide connections to places where trains sometimes don’t.
Have fun,
Bruno.
